Roads. Bad
Because of extended relatives obligation I attended a funeral in a community located at the
populous end of the Rio Grande valley. The astonishing mountain landscapes and river scenes
encountered along the way, was enough to fill my need for great sightseeing. I would normally
recommend this trip as a satisfying Sunday afternoon ride, except for the fact that the only road
to "there" is in a dangerous state of disrepair.
The populated section of the Rio Grande Valley stretches easterly and sometimes southerly from
Berrydale to Mill Bank. This Rio Grande Valley includes townships like Fellowship, Stanton, Rivers
view, Windsor, Seaman's Valley, Moore Town, Barracks, Kent, Ginger House, Comfort Castle, Mill Bank
and other smaller communities.

I found it necessary to name these townships to point out that a great number of people and
mostly school children are being distressed daily by the condition of this road. In many
areas of this road there is no longer evidence that the road was ever paved. The remaining paved
section of the roadway has so many potholes that you have to adjust your speed to zero so you could
roll through them.
These affected communities have still maintained, inspite of the terrible roadway, the village
spirit of looking out for and supporting each other. They work hard and strive to be better people.
But every day they are faced with the deteriorating road condition and some are begining to wonder
how soon it will be before the road will become impassable
I have no desire to interfere in the politics of this region but, where is the representation?
These people are disciplined, self sufficient, hardworking tax payers, who deserve an acceptable
roadway to get their children to school and their produce to market.
One of the main hazards residents of this area face is a shortage of transportation, due exactly to
the condition of the road. This affects school children the most and exposes them to unsafe
and overcrowded conditions that are barely legal. The thought of going through this on a daily
basis must affect their ability to learn in an adverse way.
Governments are supposed to provide the roads the electricity and the water for their population,
these people have been waiting for the last fifty years for some road work to
be done.
How much longer will they
have to
wait?
